R.E.A.P Volunteer Work Day
Become a R.E.A.P. Volunteer and make a difference! this month, we will be planting nursery plugs at Seward Bluffs Forest Preserve.

Experience is not required! Our natural resource experts offer hands-on ecological restoration training, such as invasive plant removal and native seed collection, plus enriching conservation activities when our work is done.
​
Please wear appropriate attire; long pants, long sleeved shirts, closed toed shoes, hat, and gloves. RSVP below.​

Walk With U - Guided Walk
Start your Saturday off on the right foot with a guided walk at Roland Olson Forest Preserve!
​
​Roland Olson is a favorite spot for hiking, picnicking, and horseback riding. Hikers and equestrians will find a variety of landscapes to explore in Olson’s restored prairie, upland woods, and remnant pine plantation.

This is a free walk. Leashed dogs allowed. No RSVP needed!

Howl at the Moon Night Hike
Here is your chance to experience the preserves at night! FPWC Deputy Kempin will guide this full moon hike at Cedar Cliff Forest Preserve.

​This preserve offers many opportunities to hear many nocturnal critters - owls, coyotes, raccoons, and more!

​This is a free guided hike. Please plan on 2-3 miles of mixed terrain - paved, grass trail, some include/decline. Leashed pets allowed. RSVP below.​

Trees & Shrubs for Wildlife Program
Join Chris Evans, Extension Forestry Specialist, with the U of I Extension, for a hike and presentation on Trees and Shrubs for Wildlife at Headquarters Forest Preserve!
Chris will focus on issues of local concern, including invasive plant species control, tree and shrub species selection, timber stand improvement, and selective harvesting.
The optional guided hike will start at 5:00 p.m., and the presentation will follow at 6:15 p.m. RSVP below.

Guided Hike at Hononegah
Join us for a fall guided hike at our oldest & most popular preserves - Hononegah Forest Preserve!

Upon entering the preserve, visitors will enjoy the drive over the Rainbow Bridge and up into the cool maple grove. Hononegah’s majestic woods make it a popular spot to enjoy fall color displays and woodland wildflowers in spring.​
