Ranger
This entry-level position serves as a caretaker of the forest preserves with responsibility for maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and accessibility of greenspace. In addition, this role assists the Senior Ranger and Area Manager as necessary and appropriate, as well as customer service support, as this position is often the initial contact person for the public. Typical winter hours are weekdays 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., no weekends (except for on-call snowplowing on a rotating basis).  Summer hours are from 6 a.m.-2:30 p.m. weekdays, with rotating weekend/holidays required. Who wouldn’t want to work where the great outdoors is your office and the daily commute is a hike around the campground?  We’re looking for individuals or couples who enjoy the outdoors to serve as campground hosts, where you’ll greet visitors, collect camping fees, track  vacancies and perform minor maintenance tasks.  You must be at least 21 years old and provide your own recreational vehicle and camping equipment, but you’ll receive free camping privileges with utilities during your service! Campground Attendant – Sugar River Forest Preserves.
Serves as an informational source to the public with respect to the campground, activities within the preserve, and community attractions. Represents the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County in a positive manner and maintains a working knowledge of rules and regulations in order to effectively communicate and educate campground customers. Processes Point of Sale (P.O.S.) transactions with campground customers, monitors reservations and campground activity. The typical season is mid-April to mid-November. Assistant Volunteer Trainer/Natural Resource Assistant – Central Shop.
Under the direction of the Natural Resource Manager and in cooperation with the Volunteer Trainer, the Assistant Volunteer Trainer assumes a vital role in the training, education and supervision of volunteers in natural resource activities as identified in our natural resource management plan.
